Secondary Dwellings Victoria: Is Your Property Ready for More?

Is Your Property Ready for More2

More Victorian property owners are discovering how transportable homes can create space, flexibility and new opportunities.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a secondary dwelling to your property, you’re not alone.

Across regional Victoria, homeowners, farmers and rural property owners are looking for smarter ways to make better use of the land they already own.

From creating accommodation for family members to housing seasonal workers or generating an additional income stream, secondary dwellings in Victoria are becoming an increasingly popular solution.

Designed for the Way Victorians Live

At Vic Housing Group, the past six months have been focused on making secondary dwellings simpler, faster and more accessible for Victorian property owners.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been refining our range of transportable homes to ensure every design delivers the right balance of affordability, functionality and quality. Our under-60-square-metre homes have been carefully planned to maximise space while providing practical, comfortable living.

Most importantly, these aren’t just ideas on paper.

Our Prototype Is Becoming Reality

We’re currently building our very first prototype home, which has now reached the frame stage.

Seeing the design come to life has reinforced what we’ve believed from the beginning: affordable housing doesn’t have to compromise on comfort, practicality or presentation.

Our goal is simple — to streamline the process and provide cost-effective housing solutions that work for real Victorian families and property owners.

Why Rural Victoria Is Taking Notice

One of the biggest trends we’ve seen is growing interest from farming and rural communities.

Many property owners are seeking accommodation for farm workers. Others want a place where ageing parents can maintain their independence close to family, adult children can have their own space, or visiting relatives can enjoy weekends away with added privacy.

For some, a secondary dwelling provides flexibility. For others, it represents an opportunity to unlock additional value from their property.

No two properties are the same, which is why flexibility matters.

Community Interest Continues to Grow

Recently, our prototype was featured as part of a Swan Hill Rural City Council workshop focused on secondary dwellings and the opportunities they create for local communities.

Following presentations from town planners, real estate professionals and industry experts, attendees were invited to inspect local examples, including our prototype home.

Approximately 15 people toured the build during its frame stage, asking questions, sharing ideas and exploring how a transportable home could work on their own properties.

What stood out most wasn’t simply the level of interest.

It was hearing everyday Victorians realise that a solution they once thought was too complicated or out of reach may actually be possible.
